Stealth Dogs

First they wanted bells. Then they didn't want bells. They had bells before, but they don't have bells now. Instead of jingling, they are now the Stealth Dogs, approaching silently, without warning, unnoticed until it was too late. They'd probably just been reading too many comic books about heroes with superpowers. But, if that was all it took to make them happy, what the hell.

Dog Daze

Kiko inspected the water can to be sure it had the right amount of water. It was tough getting anything past his sharp brown eyes. Meanwhile, the new cement was curing before the guy came back to stain it a sort of brown for the ultimate aesthetic. Weeds needed pulling. There was time to sit out on the patio listening to the wireless radio in the warmth of nearly bug-free evenings. It was the dog's gift to those of us who dressed warm all winter. One more thing we owe dogs.

el Basenji Real.

In California it was the el Camino Real, and then the coast highway, that connected the Spanish churches along the coasts. Milla, Kiko, and Bosco wanted an improved highway that became the el Basenji Real this past week. Kiko thought it worth a kiss since Gary had his lips puckered. The new road was sweet, smooth and fast. It was just what the basenjis had in mind.

Blue Rocks

"Mexican Beach Pebbles" for the dry pond and dry creek bed because the Basenjis wanted them. They shared a sweetness that made their company a moving experience. If they wanted rocks, they could have them, or nearly anything else they wanted. They did not bark. They intuited their needs to the people with whom they lived. It was an odd arrangement that worked well.
